Just Mainframe Jobs web site

Besides Dice, job seekers with mainframe experience can glean some picture of the mainframe niche job market from the Justmainframe Jobs website. The site breaks the job listing up by state and city within state, and classifies the jobs by job type (like W2).

Many of the jobs appear to require relatively specialized experience, often not only heavy DB2 but also MQ series. COBOL, however, still seems to be widely used. But today most companies use purchased packages from vendors (like Vantage for life insurance and annuities) rather than write home-grown applications, a practice that had wound down by the end of the 1980s.

The job requisitions to appear to be less specific than they were even a year ago, but the market still seems small (and mostly contract or contract-to-hire) compared to the panic room days of Y2K.
